Culture & Heritage
Ephesus, House of Mary, and Sirince Village — day trip guides from Eliada.
Kusadasi is a unique cultural center bearing traces of ancient civilizations. Filled with thousands of years of history, UNESCO World Heritage Sites, and authentic villages, this region is an open-air museum for history enthusiasts.
Ephesus Ancient City
One of the best-preserved Roman cities in the world, Ephesus is just 17 km from Kusadasi. The Library of Celsus, the Grand Theatre (with 25,000 capacity), and the Terrace Houses are the primary must-see structures. Allow at least 2-3 hours to explore the entire ancient city.
We recommend visiting early in the morning and entering from the upper gate. This way, you walk downhill for a more comfortable experience.
House of the Virgin Mary
Located on Bulbul Mountain above Ephesus, the House of the Virgin Mary is a pilgrimage center recognized as sacred by the Vatican. Believed to be where the Virgin Mary spent her final years, this site impresses visitors of all faiths with its peaceful atmosphere.
Sirince Village
8 km above Selcuk, Sirince is a former Greek village. Its stone houses, narrow streets, fruit wines, and handicrafts are enchanting. You can enjoy an authentic Aegean breakfast at village restaurants and purchase olive oil soap and peach wine from the local market.
Priene Ancient City
One of the most important cities of Ionia, Priene is impressive with its commanding view of the Meander Plain. Its 6,500-seat theatre and Temple of Athena ruins are worth seeing. It is far less crowded than Ephesus.
Miletus Ancient City
One of the ancient world's important port cities, Miletus stands out with its massive theatre and bath ruins. Home to philosophers such as Thales and Anaximander, this city is considered the cradle of philosophical thought.
Didyma (Temple of Apollo)
The Temple of Apollo at Didyma was one of the ancient world's largest oracle centers. Its massive columns still stand and are truly impressive. The Priene-Miletus-Didyma trio can be visited on a single day trip.
Kusadasi Castle and Caravanserai
The Ottoman castle in the harbor area and the adjacent Okuz Mehmet Pasha Caravanserai (now operating as a hotel) are significant Ottoman-era structures in Kusadasi.
